Who we are

In short: CiteRank is the company this policy covers, and you can always reach a human about it.

CiteRank (citerank.com) helps businesses show up in AI search: it checks whether AI assistants name you, writes answer-first articles, and publishes them to your site. This policy explains what data that takes, what we do with it, and what we never do. Questions go to support@citerank.com and a person answers.

What we collect

In short: Your account details, your website address, the public pages of that website, and basic usage data.

When you create an account we collect your name, email address, and, once you start a trial, your payment card, which goes directly to our payment processor and never touches our servers. When you add a brand we collect its website address and read its public pages so we can describe your business, find the questions worth winning, and write in your voice.

We also collect standard usage data, such as which features you use and basic device information, so we can fix what breaks and improve what gets used. We do not buy data about you from anyone.

If you join the launch waitlist we store the email address you give us and, if you add one, your website address. We use them for one email telling you your account is ready, nothing else, and you can have both removed any time by writing to support@citerank.com.

How we read your website

In short: We only read your public pages, the same ones any visitor or search engine can see.

Our checks fetch pages from your website the way a normal visitor or crawler would. We never ask for your website's passwords, database, or server access. If you connect a publishing integration such as WordPress or Shopify, we store the credentials you grant encrypted, use them only to publish and update the articles you approve, and you can disconnect them at any time.

How we use your data

In short: To run the product you signed up for. We never sell your data, full stop.

We use your data to run the loop you are paying for: checking AI engines for your name, writing and scoring articles, publishing on your schedule, and reporting the results back to you. We use aggregate, de-identified usage patterns to improve the product. We do not sell your personal data, we do not share it with advertisers, and we do not use your private content to market to anyone else.

AI providers

In short: Your public page content and tracked questions are sent to AI providers to do the work. They are contractually barred from training on it.

Writing articles and checking AI visibility means sending content to large language model providers. What we send is limited to what the job needs: your public page content, your business description, and the questions we track for you. Our agreements with these providers prohibit them from using this data to train their models. Your account details and payment information are never included.

Cookies

In short: We use cookies to keep you signed in, not to follow you around the internet.

We set essential cookies for sign-in sessions and security. We do not run third-party advertising trackers on this site. If we ever add analytics cookies beyond the essentials, we will update this policy and ask where the law requires it.

Who we share data with

In short: Only the vendors it takes to run the service: hosting, payments, email, and the AI providers above.

We share data with a short list of processors, each under a data processing agreement: our hosting provider (to run the app), our payment processor (to bill you), our email provider (to send receipts and alerts you asked for), and the AI providers described above. If you connect Google Search Console, we read your site's performance data with the permission you grant and nothing more. We disclose data to authorities only when the law compels us to.

Retention and deletion

In short: We keep your data while your account is active, and delete it when you ask.

We keep your data for as long as your account exists so your history, scores, and articles keep working. If you close your account or ask us to, we delete your personal data within 30 days, except the minimal records that tax and accounting law requires us to keep. The articles we published to your website are yours and stay wherever you published them. To request deletion or a copy of your data, email support@citerank.com.

Your rights

In short: You can see, correct, export, or delete your data by asking.

Depending on where you live, you may have legal rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing. We honor these requests for everyone, not just where a statute makes us: email support@citerank.com and we will act on it within 30 days. You will not be treated differently for exercising a right.

Changes to this policy

In short: If this policy changes in a way that matters, we tell you before it takes effect.

We may update this policy as the product and the law evolve. The date at the top always reflects the latest version. For material changes, we will email account holders before the change takes effect.
